To determine the average gauge of an individual
bag, first weigh the bag using an accurate gram scale. Second, measure its
overall width and length. Finally, use the following formula:
| G= |
Bag Weight in Grams x 30.5
|
| Width x Length x Material Density |
Material Density-
- For LDPE and LLDPE use 0.920
- For WMW HDPE use 0.950
For Example: for a
LLDPE bag which you have weighed as 5.57 grams and measured as 24.2 inches
in width and 24.7 inches in length, the average gauge is:
| G= |
5.57 x 30.5
|
= .309 mil |
| 24.2 x 24.7 x 0.92 |
To Convert from mil to microns,
to determine micron thickness, multiply your answer in mil by the constant
25.4
For Example: .309 mil = .309 x 25.4
= 7.85 microns |
